A child who depends on their parent for financial and other support.
To qualify as a dependant, your child must meet the age limit and requirements of the applicable definition below. To know which definition applies, pick the definition in force on the date we received your application for permanent residence.
Exception: If your child’s age was locked in on or before July 31, 2014, your child must meet the requirements that were in force at that time, regardless of when you submitted your application for permanent residence.

Definition of a dependent child as of October 24, 2017
Children qualify as dependants if they meet both of these requirements:
they’re under 22 years old, and
they don’t have a spouse or common-law partner.
Children 22 years old or older (also known as an overage dependent children) qualify as dependants if they meet both of these requirements:

they have depended on their parents for financial support since before the age of 22, and
they are unable to financially support themselves because of a mental or physical condition.
Definition of a dependent child from August 1, 2014, to October 23, 2017
Children qualify as dependants if they are:
under 19 years old, and do not have a spouse or common-law partner, or
19 years old or older (also known as overage dependent children) and have depended on the parent’s financial support since before the age of 19 because of a physical or mental condition

Children 21 years old and under
To be eligible as a dependant, your child must not be married or not in a common-law relationship.
Children 21 years old and under who are married or in a common-law relationship may qualify as overage dependants if they meet both of these requirements:
have been a full-time student on an ongoing basis, and
have depended largely on a parent's financial support since they became a spouse or partner.

To be eligible as a dependant, children 22 years old and older must:

have depended on a parent's financial support since before the age of 22 because of a physical or mental condition
or
have been a full-time student on an ongoing basis since before the age of 22, and
have depended on a parent's financial support since that time.
If your child became a spouse or partner before the age of 22, your child may be eligible as a dependant only if your child meets both of these requirements:

1. 从2017年10月24日开始，dependent child 的定义

如果满足如下两个条件，子女即为 dependant：

年龄小于22岁，并且
没有配偶或同居伴侣

22岁或大于22岁的子女（即超龄 dependent children），如果满足如下两个条件，则也可定义为 dependent：

他们在22岁之前一直接受父母的经济资助，并且
由于精神或身体疾病，他们不能在经济上自立。

2. 2014年8月1日至2017年10月23日 dependent child 的定义：

如果满足如下条件，子女即为 dependant：

19岁以下，没有配偶或同居伴侣，或者
19岁及以上（即所谓的超龄 dependent children ），并且由于精神或身体疾病，19岁以前经济上一直靠父母资助。

3. 2014年7月31日及之前 dependent child 的定义：

年龄为21岁及以下

要具有dependant资格，你的子女必须没有结婚或者没有同居伴侣。

21岁及以下的子女，如果已经结婚或有同居伴侣，如果满足如下两个要求，可以具有超龄 dependant 资格。

一直为全日制学生，并且

超龄 dependants

要成为 dependant，22岁及以上的子女必须：

自22岁以来一直是全日制学生，并且
从那时起就依靠父母经济上资助。

如果你的子女在22ui之前成为配偶或伴侣，如果满足以下两个要求，你的子女可以成为 dependant：

自22岁以来一直是全日制学生，并且
成为配偶或伴侣后经济上一直靠父母资助。
